Denethor wouldn’t be in that chat. You don’t need to be allied directly with someone to help serve their purposes. You just have to be some amount of incompetent/ afraid. Which is the entire point of Denethor (and Elaida in WOT)
Denethor has a palantir which is part of the reason why he’s so paranoid and afraid, so technically he was on the “group chat”.
