Don’t know why this was downvoted.

I likely have an even more cynical take on American “conservatives” than those who are often labelled woke (and paradoxically I don’t always agree with), yet I don’t see the big deal with having a conservative community/instance or whatever.

I mean, Lemmy is rife with tankies; it doesn’t get much worse than that.

Because Lemmy very much wants an echo-chamber. Even tho many say they left Reddit to get out of echo-chambers.

I’ve seen lots of posts saying variations of, “I don’t think the Fediverse should allow conservative communites.” lol

FWIW, I think the term “echo-chamber” is way overused, almost to the point of being meaningless. I also don’t believe in the sincerity and coherence of American-style conceptions of “free speech”.

“Fediverse shouldn’t allow convervatives communities” is nuts though. This is not workable from a practical perspective (forget the moral questions for a second).

Racism, overt dehumanisation, denial of widely accepted mass scale human rights abuses; that’s something that can be managed from a moderation standpoint. But this would impact groups across the political spectrum (nazies, tankies, some far right, some far left).

Fair point! I agree with all your points made.

I should clarify and say that I think Lemmy very much wants to erase all conservative content from the fediverse. Which is totally against what the fediverse stands for.

There are a number of conservative instances that have popped up. I have yet to see any actual discussion. My experience has been that conservatives get their marching orders from fox news or a few other places and don’t give it any thought. When I visit my Trumper relatives, I know exactly what they will be bitching about. Doesn’t matter if it’s untrue, like Bidens open borders.

I’m happy simply because it will cut down on conservative content elsewhere and I can simply filter the community lmao.

I think more people should follow your example, to be honest.

I prefer people block them, rather than calling for them to be banned. Conservatives have just as much of a right to be here as liberals.

The more posts I see from you, the more I respect you! I know you went through some rough hits and pushback.

Unfortunately I am seeing your home instance, lemm.ee being part of this push against opposing opinions lately.

I am liking the vibe of hilarious chaos a lot. I’m switching to it as my main instance.
