I’m on an instance that’s federated with hexbear and I’ve just not really seen anything like that happen. Y’all on Lemmy.world and such blew hex bears way out of proportion.
You can’t see what I’m saying anymore, I don’t think. But for the record that was a Hexbear admin doing behind-the-scenes fuckery, it wasn’t a moderator.
Here’s what they said to me when I participated on their instance:
The only thing I’m predicting that I’m meeting your mind with is an icepick
i am wishing death and suffering upon you. I hope your life gets materially worse. I hope you get leprosy. I hope you get stabbed. I hope you get long covid. I hope you hang for your collaborationist ways and I hope the hangman fucks up so it’s painful
you get to climb to the top of a very tall building and yeet yourself into the void
Death threat
And I wasn’t even saying that a brutal invasion with rape, child-killing, torture, and of course the bombing and killing of all kinds of civilians including aid workers was the fault of the people being invaded. You know what my sin was? I said Trump was going to be dangerous for them. Also I was pretty sarcastic and condescending about it, I won’t lie, because I can’t give respect or take them seriously in any capacity when they say the things that they say. But regardless of the condescension, that was what I was saying.
They also sent me a bunch of pictures which I don’t think I need to post here.
So you’re telling me you went to an online community with the express intention of being a dick to them and you’re surprised that they were rude to you? First time on the internet, son?
If by “being a dick to them,” you mean disagreeing with them, and by “rude” you mean death threats, then yes. In that case, you have it exactly right.
Death threats and shit pictures as a tool of political discussion are actually pretty rare on most parts of the internet once you get above the 13-year-old level. On some parts they are super common, but mostly those parts aren’t taken super seriously on the rest of it.
My point was that they’re setting up all kinds of whining about people “being a dick” to them in their own space, while feeling free to wander into other people’s spaces and pollute them with whatever type of dickery they want, including approval for the killing of their enemies (both in Ukraine and on Lemmy). And that’s ironic. That was my point.

Lmao the mod removal reason on that comment is

Well it sounds from your definition like you were being the antagonistic one but whatever.
