I really hate how em-dashes are now being used as an AI indicator. I’m old—old enough to know how to use them—and have enjoyed the last couple decades of touch keyboards making it easy to type them.
Now i have to stop using them again because some stupid regurgitation machine starts overusing them…
How old would that be? I’m 38, I just had to look it up on the Internet a couple decades ago to know how to use them, and have used them on occasion since.
Now i have to stop using them
Nah, keep using language correctly. Don’t bend to AI. Then it will have won a war it didn’t even take part in.
Why should you stop? I prefer to use em dashes (when I’m on my PC. I used to know the alt code for it). I’m not going to stop using them. By the way, I put spaces around my em dashes, but I notice you (and ChatGPT) don’t. Now I have to look up which is correct.
Dang. Well I’m going to continue to put spaces, because it looks nicer. If people can spell “all right” as “alright”, then I can put spaces around my em dashes!

I USE THEM ALL THE TIME I HATE IT
Loved me a good em dash as well. I guess it’s back to the underground of semicolons.

Please tell me with spaces is correct! It looks horrible without.
I’m sorry…
