It happens more than you think. When I was in my early 20’s I was a traveling hippy and my driver’s license expired. I didn’t have the 25$ to get a new license in the state I moved to, I literally had zero dollars lol.

I found a local nonprofit justice center that paid the 20$ I needed.

Without that ID I couldn’t get a job or pay any bills or do much of anything. Transitioning from being a poor vegan hobbler (basically a homeless person, but I was in my early 20’s) to a person with an apartment and job and everything else needed for that was one of the most difficult and tedious things I’ve ever done.

For folks with less mental faculties, poor families just getting by, etc I can absolutely see how fulfilling these proposed restrictions on voting would be difficult to impossible.

We don’t have to prove citizenship for anything…. No one even knows how. I doubt the people proposing this legislation know how to prove they are citizens.

I see a lot of folks on the left making fun of maga supporters for being against vaccines etc, but I’ve only ever met anti vax leftists…. I’m not against vaccines I believe the science but it’s less of a left right issue than we believe it to be….

I can, however, say that I understand any concern or trepidation folks in the US have because of our fucked up healthcare system, the astronomical cost of healthcare even many can not afford preventative care, would lean folks to believe less scientifically proven methods and non traditional health care.

I always forget that when the crowds are this large it does kind of help people understand folks are on their side, even if they are not engaged in politics and just read the headlines like us folks on lemmy who argue about things before we read the article and then apologize later…

Yes. I respond to news articles and the comments in the posts to engage with the content. I don’t post a lot, I mainly comment. I do use learned knowledge, intuition, lived experience, gut feelings, emotion to get the general feeling of how an event or idea affects me personally as well as those I care about, but that’s involves compassion and empathy. I have many flaws though, yes even bias.

I hear you…. My main point is that new things are never as green as old things, but I have recently heard or read articles suggesting the impact of mining for metal and batteries is not fully accounted for in the studies….

This is also ignoring the environmental damage caused by mining the resources for the batteries, as well as ignoring that an old ICE engine will always be better for the environment than a new ICE or EV car. There is no such thing as a new car that is good for the environment… it’s all green washing.
