@Eruanna amazing! And you thought you’d be the only one - I think this is the importance of these - people are realising they’re not alone, just because Fox keeps telling them they are
Mostly a lurker.
I read books to pay the bills.

@Eruanna honk honk!
@Eruanna @Elkot I’ve been following the #TeslaTakedown stuff with interest - some of the protests seem to be enormous. Hopefully it is inviting people to dip their toe in the water, meet some fellow pissed off people, start organising, be visibly against what’s happening… It all matters.
@henfredemars @ObviouslyNotBanana at that point the military would surely drag him out because it would officially be a coup, so they’d be bound to do it. And no, putting Pete Hegseth in charge doesn’t mean he’s suddenly captured the whole military. He hasn’t even managed to kick out any LGBTQ+ people yet.
@Boddhisatva @vividspecter there was massive voter suppression this election. It’s been mounting for ages but even worse this time. Loads of mail-ins chucked out; bomb threats; voter roll purges. A lot of people tried to vote (or even now, think they did) but were turned away or their votes weren’t counted. Even on those numbers, things look sticky for Trump. https://www.gregpalast.com/trump-lost-vote-suppression-won/
@barneypiccolo @Prandom_returns probably need to settle on some nice succinct nicknames for everyone involved, a la Sleepy Joe / Lyin’ Ted…
@barneypiccolo @Bamboodpanda really gives you confidence that they all know what they’re doing in the databases to make sure “everything’s computer” in the federal agencies

@pleasegoaway @Nightwingdragon don’t forget the federal buildings
@drmoose dunno, we have a strong tradition of petty bureaucratic jobsworths who take rule-following too far, and also a nasty history of over-policing protests.
@drmoose it was discussed in the 00s (in the UK!) but was massively polarising and got dropped. People didn’t like the idea of having to carry something that proved who they are.
@drmoose @prole The UK only just brought it in a few years ago, against the advice of the Elec Commission as we don’t really have any fraud and we don’t have universal ID cards so it’s complicated to know what you’d need to bring. Mostly it’s passports or driving licences which relies on people having the cash to drive or travel, and their name matching the voter roll. If someone is turned away for not having ID they might not come back.
Would people do what Vance told them to do though?
But then I don’t really think I understand US politics. To me it makes no sense why there isn’t an impeachment charge against him every day. He’s providing enough ammo. If he’s going to flood the zone, flood it right back.
@FiskFisk33 @corsicanguppy why not make him do it. Make him sign his approval to every “mistake” his cabinet makes.
yeah I know! But it was very common for a long time. Retard was voted worst by British disabled people in the early 2000s (and of course the Spastics Society had to rename to Scope in the 90s because of the misuse of the term, so it’s significant if R is worse). Currently both on the “strong” column in the ofcom list (which is a sometimes fun, sometimes horrible reference guide). https://www.ofcom.org.uk/siteassets/resources/documents/research-and-data/tv-radio-and-on-demand-research/tv-research/offensive-language-quick-reference-guide.pdf
It took the US a *lot* longer to recognise spastic/spaz as offensive too.
@NotLemming @MountingSuspicion fellow English and I would say it’s even more offensive here than in the US! Maybe that’s why you’ve not heard it.
@fake_meows @Polderviking they cut loads of things that are a small (comparative) expense that bring in, or save, a lot of money, or support the economy. Like the national parks and USAID, and *all science*. Those new expenses won’t be realised for a while but in the mean time they’re paying off sacked staff left and right, paying the DOGE team, and fighting legal rulings. It’s a ridiculous way of going about anything.
@Xanthobilly @ReallyActuallyFrankenstein partly this. Possibly also dementia + power-crazed wannabe dictator I suspect
