An Amendment takes 2/3 of Congress to approve though, not just a majority.

I can imagine plenty of Dems in Congress would say “fuck it, let’s try Obama again” though and roll the dice on approving it :-/

No, Republicans definitely had this in the bag. Had there been a chance it wouldn’t have gone through, at least a couple of them would have dissented and sided with the Republicans.
