I’ll fight right now, but standing around with a sign is not going to save those people

Do you understand that there are no protections for workers here? I mean, the OP of this thread is just looking for reasons to bitch (this is assist not the first time this protest date has been announced), but in case you’re not American, people can and absolutely do get fired for taking a day off work. And our health insurance is tied to our jobs. I’m not saying everything needs to be handed to us on a silver platter, but your comment belongs on Reddit. Let’s try NOT to feed into their breeding of hate amongst ourselves. Or go bitch about the Americans WHO DO NOT WANT THIS somewhere else, you have plenty of places to do that.
You’re holding your own well, but I just want to encourage you not to let the dude bro gym bros talk you into eating meat if you don’t want to
Can you give a source as to what is enough protein?
Don’t forget all the meltdowns
Yeah, I wish there was a less condescending way to advocate for changing yourself if you can’t change the world (not that I’m saying you’re condescending, I’m saying it’s hard to talk to people about it without sounding like “pull yourself up by the bootstraps”), but I’ve been really reevaluating this stuff in the last few months and it’s helping me a lot. I’m buying less that I don’t need and donating that money to causes. I’m trying to focus on what I can do in my world, while still paying attention to the big world, and it’s helping me keep a balance. I’m focusing on making myself a better me so I can fight instead of wallowing in helplessness (which I definitely did do for a while).
And stop saying sigh, Amazon and Bezos suck, but I simply cannot live without throwing my money at them. I tend to hate to be judgy about it, but I think the time has come to pass judgement, for people to put up or shut up. Yes, all corporations are bad. That means we should all be consuming less. But some corporations are definitely worse than others, and every single person who voluntarily gives them money is complicit. They have the power because we give it to them.
That’s funny about you because you assume if they don’t say they’re a woman they must be a man
Sir that ship sailed months ago, what are you talking about?
I don’t think that I can take it 'cause it took so long to bake it
One of my crabby old person pet peeves is kids these days ending statements with question marks? I get that they’re afraid of periods and they don’t want to look like my generation using ellipses constantly (which I am glad about), but half the time I cannot tell if someone is asking a question or making a statement and randomly using a question mark, and it can very much change the meaning of their comment. We need something more open-ended for these people.
I’ve been a vegetarian for a hundred years, but I’ve finally decided to go vegan and I’m kind of excited about it. I’m growing a garden from seeds I started inside, and my seeds have almost all sprouted.
I was looking for someone saying this. He was envisioning a bunch of us poors fighting each other when he called for civil war. He never thought it would be all of us against him.
It really does show that violence might be the only way to get through to these people. Not that I would ever advocate for such a thing directly myself of course of course. But if this is the only thing that gets their attention, it seems like he’s inviting more of it.
And then in 5-10 years the users will destroy it like everything else on the Internet…
Seriously, though, make me wrong - because this kind of model is so new to me, I don’t know, is there anything different about this that will resist it going the way of things that were once good and eventually weren’t, like Craigslist and Reddit?
Obviously a lot of Reddit sucks due to how it’s run, but let’s not overlook that part of its downfall, like with Craigslist, is the users as it grew having no respect for the model. I’ve been on my way out since well before the API exodus (and yet I was addicted and too lazy until now, that’s on me). People posting whatever they want wherever they want and having very little understanding of nuance in language (“oddly satisfying” doesn’t just mean “I like this”), misusing downvoting (I know I’m yelling at clouds, but that was where Reddit was doomed from the start to become an echo chamber, and I didn’t know if Lemmy is different in that respect - do votes determine visibility here?), moderators becoming more power hungry, and I’m sorry if this is mean, but the userbase trending younger steering content much more to “mah crush, aitah?,” fake stories for “points,” and I feel the general populace there being more gullible. Not to mention the same comments being made over and over, and I’m not talking about bots, I’m talking about constant “this is the way” and “username checks out.”
I’ve seen so many actual discussions here already that are full of real passion and good points even when they’re heated, some lovely user created and has posted around a really through socialist reading list. I’ve only seen “this is the way” once. Reddit is lazy one-word answers and downvotes. How do we encourage this and discourage that?
Anyway, I rant. This place is great now and will only get better as it grows, but I hope this model will in some way resist that downfall. But I’ve come to accept that nothing on the Internet is permanent. And also that people are gonna people and if I don’t like that, it’s on me to leave.
I never said just sit there, you are putting words in my mouth. I said to stop SHITTING on people who are trying to survive in a country that is designed to keep them down
