Removing existing rust isn’t the same as preventing future rust though. That it had rust at all indicates that whatever protective coating was there is no longer there. The dishwasher with likely accelerate the rusts reappearance

If it’s already showing signs of rust, I would think twice about putting it through the dishwasher

I don’t know anything about this but in my misspent youth kids would take the regulator off adjustable disposable butane lighters and you could light the lighter and then basically pour the butane out of the lighter.

Something like that could surely ignite clothing and appear to be “just” a lighter.

Sometimes I do wish karma accumulated and there was a negative karma limit though…
