  • I’m going to take a different tact here, just based on interactions with Canadians.

My Canadian friends know that I’m not a Trump supporter. They know that I have wanted to get out of the US for years now, and that I think the US has gone to shit and is now overrun by fascists. But that doesn’t mean they can exempt me from the hurt they need to put on the US. That’s not how it works. They’ve got to hit the USA back where it hurts, and that means in the pocketbook. And that means we all are in the brawl. They line up shoulder to shoulder and go elbows up because solidarity is where it’s at when your former buddies from across the way punch you in the face unexpectedly. What I don’t understand is how Americans could have expected Canadians to just roll over and take it. I mean, the Canadian national sport is Hockey, where going ‘elbows up’ is something you can expect on a regular basis. And we’re now in the virtual equivalent of a Hockey brawl (and can be in a very real one if we dare think we can just invade – last time we did that, they burned down the White House!).

31% of American voters aren’t the only people who need to suffer, either. You’re counting the 77m people who voted Trump in that number, and pointing out that 75m voted Harris. Well, what about the 2m who voted third part and the 90m+ people who stayed home? Doncha think those people have some responsibility for Trump? And how exactly are the Canadians and Europeans supposed to know which group you are part of? You say you voted Harris, but you can’t prove that (and shouldn’t want to with the rise of Fascism). You could be a closet Trump supporter that just SAYS you are a Harris supporter, and nobody would know better.

So, in summary, yes. As a Harris voter, you are gonna have to feel the heat from Canada and Europe and the rest of the civilised world. They can’t avoid targeting you when they target the entire USA. You’re an American, and right now, they have to worry about their people and not the fraction of the USA that voted to stay sane. The best they can do is try to rescue the ‘good’ Americans, but right now, even that’s a step too far because American economics has infected them to the point that they can’t even house their own populace. So, rather than getting mad at Canadians and Europeans, let’s get mad at the real perps here, the shitgibbon and his merry band of miscreants and everyone who enabled that bunch of assholes by voting for them, voting third party, or staying home.

  • I feel like everyone else has covered the twin angles of what happened to MKL and Malcolm X, and the whole worry about having a defined leader. So let me talk about another few angles of this.

Let’s face it. The Left is not unified. There are a metric fuckton worth of little factions that have their own goals and their own ideas, and they can’t agree on anything except the Right is bad. If you’re wanting to go back to the Obama or Clinton years, and not recreate a socialist ideal in the USA, you’re panned as a liberal and not sufficiently radicalised by the socialists. If you would rather have a functioning government with government-subsidised healthcare and education, the liberals scream at you for being too radical, while the anarchists scream at you that any organised government is evil and shit. And everyone has their very specific, very defined vision, at least about this one thing they care about, and zero willingness to compromise or trade horses to any of the other factions with their limited view.

This makes leadership at best complicated, if not outright impossible. How can we find someone who will equally represent all factions in our coalition, when the only thing we really agree on is Trump Bad ™?

And how can leadership stop the failure path you have identified above? People think that we’re not being listened to (they’re right, also!). They think the only answer they have is to break shit until people listen to us. We’ve got plenty of people, from the main movers and shakers down to the rank and file, saying ‘hey, we break shit, that just makes Trump and his goons hit us harder, and now with apparent justification.’ Those people scream back at us that peaceful protests and electoralism don’t work, and that the only way we’ll be taken seriously is by breaking shit and making people feel the pain. Do you think a defined leader will make that failure chain go away? I don’t. I think that Trump is banking on that failure chain because the real goal is an American gestapo that goes around beating the shit out of people who don’t toe the line and what better way to form that gestapo than in response to Leftist ‘violence’. And I am not above this. I think that it’s far more effective to just tell people that driving a Tesla means supporting a fascist oligarch, but any time I try to make this point to the kinds of people who want to burn Teslas, we get back into the arguments I allude to in my first paragraph. AND this is before we get into agent provocateurs and COINTELPRO and other stuff.

Finally, any real societal change that is going to stick from the egalitarian side of the fence will come from a grass-roots movement. We don’t want a charismatic leader who can stand up in front of the crowd and shake their fist. We want crowds of people who show up for the silly notion that human beings need respect and that this is not America. Leave the authoritarian charismatic leader for the Right. Egalitarianism is about society, not any one charismatic jerk with a bone to pick.

    JMNSHO.

  • It really depends on what the purpose of voter ID is.

If it’s to ensure that everyone that is entitled to vote votes once and only once, you’ll see some key properties. It’ll be free and easy to get. Applying for it is as simple as applying to vote (which itself will be easy to do), and it’ll be virtually automatic that you get it. In many cases, it’ll arrive unannounced as the Government already knows everything it needs to get you this card, and you won’t have to do anything but show up at the polls election day with the card they gave you.

If it’s to ensure that only ‘desirable’ voters can vote, it’ll have other key properties. Getting it will be as easy as the above if you’re the preferred class. But if you’re the undesirable class of voter, getting it will have more hassles than its worth. It’ll cost money. It’ll have onerous requirements. It’ll take you lots of time, and require transportation. It’ll be designed to discourage you from voting. Because that’s the goal. Onerous enough that you give up and let your betters rule you like God intended.

Can you guess what the United States’ goal with voter ID is? Here’s a hint. We have a long history of treating certain groups of people like crap, and despite 1865’s end of the Civil War, there are STILL people who would rather see Black people in chains and treated like animals.

  • What the shitgibbon calls things should be reported on, then promptly countered, so his bullshit can’t get embedded in the zeitgeist.

We also need more news sites. If you think you can do a better job reporting the news than the Guardian, than by all means, please do so, and do what you think is best. Because the only way we’ll get past this is by holding Master Mould Shitgibbon and his merry band of miscreants’ multiple fuckups to the light in as many ways as possible.

Sorry not sorry for not engaging in the shiny object you seem fixated on. I’ve got bigger fish to fry.
