3 days agoNot an age thing. In the Senate, speeches are addressed to the presiding officer, the President (pro tempe) of the Senate. That it is a similar title to President of the United States is not entirely a coincidence, as the President of the Senate is the Vice President of the United States. Usually VPOTUS is too busy to actually sit in a stuffy room all day, so he lets Senate leadership designate someone to take turns filling the seat and do homework while other blather on.
