My area had local elections yesterday and in all seats where a Democrat ran, they won by at least a couple thousand votes (15+ points). If a Republican candidate ran unopposed, they were under by just about the same number of votes. People here (in Central IL) would rather not vote for anyone than vote for a Republican and I love to see it. Let’s hope the momentum and anger against Republicans continues into 2026 and 2028.
Who knows how shit will fare farther out than a few months from today, but it would be hard to claim election fraud in those elections if there were massive Democrat wins in almost every election, especially those areas that previously went hard for tRump.
Garland didn’t want to seem like his actions were political retribution, like they claimed it was anyway. He didn’t want the perception they already concluded anyway!
You mock, but like most seafarers, they had a strict code of conduct that was pretty much the law of the land sea.
I struggle with how to word my thoughts about this, but online, text-based communication seems to always start out being interpreted as negative in its messaging. So those reading tend to assume the sender is being disingenuous from the start.
That’s why it may take longer to deprogram via online methods than in person. Online, we have to first get past the perception that we are disingenuous or mocking the reader. It’s not easy to do when right-wing propagandists have fed them a steady diet of tribalism and mistrust for the last couple of decades (at least).
In person, we can verbally relay those things we can’t accurately convey in text with nonverbal cues: emotion and sincerity. It can also be easier to cut off misunderstandings before they can reinforce those negative assumptions by gauging someone’s nonverbal communications in the moment, something we can’t do while they read our words.
It’s weird cause it can feel like it takes a month of chats online to equal the same progress as chatting in person for an hour. I made the time comparison up, but I’m sure you understand my meaning. Trying to do this online is just time-consuming and that’s not to mention the person you are talking to has to WANT to discuss these things with you.
I just wish it was easier for me to stomach the bullshit and vitriol IRL.
This is a fear my therapist and I have talked about. I didn’t understand why children made me uncomfortable to be around. We discovered that it wasn’t about the kid, nor their age, but the perception. And I think some kids pick up on that anxiety.
Kind of the same reason you make noise while hiking in an area with bears. I’m never looking for an interaction so I make some one-off noises to let the other party know I’m there and I’m letting them decide how they want to handle that info.
Definitely! Happy cake day!
I tend to agree with that. I also hate that of all the great uses for generative AI, this is the direction they took the tech. It’s not a replacement for whole jobs, and I knew that at the onset, but so many dumb business types thought it could replace entire departments, customer service, etc.
US Military: we set up the bomb!
There’s that old thought experiment on who someone would take out of time travel existed. I used to think that Hitler would be a good target. However, seeing how many of the current issues started because of something Reagan gutted, reduced, or schemed to disrupt or remove makes him my new target. So much of our current shituation can be directly tied back to Reagan.
OMG, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of my favorite movies.
“Look up idiot in the dictionary. You know what you’ll find?”
“A picture of me?”
“No! The definition of the word “idiot”! Which you fucking are!!”
