I found this out when researching care for my grandparent. You have to spend all of the money before they can be eligible for certain types of care. They make you get rid of it all or forfeit it.
This is the problem. My partner doesn’t want to work OT because he thinks it will cost him more in taxes. I explain why that’s not exactly true, but I can tell he’s not interested. Financial Literacy in the US is abysmal.
I was really trying to rack my brain for this question but, you helped me.
Mine is a pet too. A dog. I have a Dalmatian and there was one up for adoption at a local shelter.
I went to meet him, and the shelter sort of pushed him into me right then. It was more expensive than it should have been also.
In the end, I’m glad I brought him home. My first dog loves to wrestle with him and the shelter ended up getting shut down for violations with the state. I’m so happy he got a good home with me and didn’t get sent to who knows where when the shelter closed.
