The situation is odder than I realized. I haven’t followed any news of this since first reading about his passing. Apparently they believe Betsy died first and that Gene didn’t die until up to a week later, of something completely different. That’s strange. And I didn’t see anything about how the dog died.
With Gene having advanced alzheimers, it was likely he wasn’t aware his wife was already dead until he himself passed. Sad situation all around. The dog died because it was in a crate and wasn’t able to eat/drink.
Fuck me that’s terrible.
Dog was in a crate, dehyration. Two other dogs which were not confined are recovering in new homes.
Betsy died from hantavirus. Gene had advanced Alzheimers/dementia, as well as a history of heart trouble, but he did not have hantavirus. Whether the heart troubles killed him and he fell in place, or if he fell and couldn’t get up is unknown.
