WHAT IS THIS? A PASSPORT FOR BLUE WHALES??
They somehow never watched Idiocracy
probably for giant aliens when they land in toronto for the first time.
They are correct. That is way too big.
I’m no Canadian passport connoisseur but when were they red? My old one from 10 years ago is blue so I’m not sure what that’s about?
I was wondering, if it’s perhaps relatively common between nations for passports to be red, but from some very quick image searching that doesn’t really seem to be the case:
- US blue
- UK blue
- France red
- Germany red
- Spain red
- India blue
- China red
- Brazil blue
South Africa green
UK was red pre-brexit
And thank god it changed back. Of all the issues in my life, having to look at a red passport once every few months affected me so much that you can’t even imagine the hardship. That and something about wonky bananas that I’ve been told was a massive problem that’s only going to be fixed if I vote for that party which definitely represents me as I can have a beer with it’s leader. I’m guessing he’ll buy the round given his wealth that the woke London elite keep trying to take but he’s stood up to them
They are, but only if you’re a diplomat
The White Power Ranger one is badass.
It’s also expensive and very shortlived, so it has at least that going for it. Source: found out my passport had expired 24 hours before boarding a flight; Also, austrian temp passports are also white
Ah ok that makes sense
No one ever said it was red.
But they said it wasn’t red. So one would question when they were.
I think I get it. They are expecting the passport to be red like the flag.
That says it’s not red
I think their point is that there would be no reason to saying that it’s not red if there was also no assumption of it being red in the first place
I’m not a racist, but seven doesn’t feel like a prime number.
Yeah exactly that
Admire that you did this. Believe it or not, a lot of people on Lemmy have a hard time pointing out their mistakes. Commendable.
You probably left the EU or something.
I do not think they have ever been red
At that size of a passport, in an international emergency, you could use your passport as a shelter or flotation device … is it also bullet proof?
The U.S. bulletproof model was proposed for school children. Sadly, Republicans successfully fought against it, because it “Would give the kids an unfair advantage over the school shooters.”
Sad chuckle
Never thought of it before but they could make sections of this new enormous passport edible … pages 14 to 16 could be used as an emergency ration if you get caught in a war zone.
It doubles as a riot shield, just in case.
I’m case you have a layover in US?
Why blue? White with red trimming would be nicer.
Iirc, you can only choose red, blue, black, and green. Maybe other colors are possible, but not preferred (I can see a white passport looking pretty rough after a couple years, if you’re a heavy traveler). No idea why they wouldn’t stick with red though.
You can see the text on the front of them for what they are for. Blue are regular passports for casual travel. Red are diplomatic passports for high ranking officials. Green are special passports for senators, MPs or government workers on official business. White temporary passports are usually issued abroad where a Canadian citizen has an urgent requirement to travel but doesn’t have a passport for whatever reason.
I believe red is usually reserved for diplomatic type passports.
EU passports are red (burgundy)
Not Croatia, but yes, all others it seems.
However, in Canada, the country in question, diplomatic passports (red cover) are issued to high-ranking Government of Canada officials and diplomats, as well as representatives and delegates of the Government of Canada to international governmental organizations and international conferences of a diplomatic nature.
Swiss passports are bright red fwiw.
Singapore?
And the EU have burgundy which is red-adjacent
Unless I’m mistaken, that’s a Canadian passport pictured and in Canada red (maroon) passports are diplomatic.
White are temporary passports for Canadian citizens outside Canada who require passports but their regular passport application is being processed.

You guyses don’t think that might be a bit large for travel /s
I gotta say, it’s the perfect size for huge trips!
Also not new. Mine already looks like this one.
*Forest
You can’t see the forest for the r’s
i think 2 Rs would be a mistake, 3 or more intentional
I made a mistake initially but you know, mistakes are just happy little accidents
i see, i arived late to the parrty, didn’t notice the edit
we’re almost up to a fiverest
Why are passports still a booklet? Everything is digital now. We don’t need stamps or visas in the passport anymore. It serves no purpose.
whoop my phone just ran out of juice, guess my passport is valid, eh?
There’s an rfid chip in EU passports
Does it? The IDs have one, but the passports are also still booklets, aren’t they? But then if you stay within the Schengen area, the ID is enough anyways. I even been to the UK once with just my ID. Before Brexit ofc.
And Canadian passports
And US passports.
I had to verify my identity with a UK government app recently, and the app scanned my passport’s RFID!
My bank did the same thing, I felt like a fucking techno-wizard for a bit.
I never said it had to be an app or a card in your phone’s wallet, although it’s not a bad idea. Passports have chips now. I just think it doesn’t need to be a booklet anymore.
It’s probably more to do with being compliant with other countries’ systems. The US has passport cards, but they only work with Canada and Mexico. I’m sure that has to do with some agreement we made with them.
They still physically staple your visa in there or use stamps to register entry in addition to registering things digitally.
I just want it to be wallet sized and tear/water resistant, so like a typical plastic ID card.
The US has a passport card option, but it’s only applicable to US, Mexico, Caribbean and Canada.
In Europe there is a credit card sized identity card which is valid in the EU and EFTA.
Here’s a comparison. The card is so practical, it should be standard by now.
My SIN card shouldn’t still be paper either but governments don’t care.
because sometimes the power goes out
Nah. My mother had to stay more than two hours in a line in Atlanta’s immigration because the system went down.
Then they should make an app for Windows 10, because I use Windows 10 Mobile for my phone.

I still miss my 950XL.
The Lumia series are still my favorite phones ever. I just wish they had baked in Android support. Fun fact, they had fully functioning versions with Android play store in testing, and it worked very well. Then Microsoft decided not to pursue it, or couldn’t negotiate a contract with Google.
I miss my Treo 650, and 700. Smartphones before companies stole the term and made the devices dumb
There’s plenty of countries that use stamps still. Also, collecting stamps is fun.
They have chips in them.
sentimental value of stamps
plenty of countries still use them
